Set up with a parent (web handoff)

How kids hand their device to a parent for household setup, payments, and Go Live approval.

When to use this flow

If a kid is using KidStand on their own device but needs a parent to create the household, enable payments, or approve a stand, they can tap "Set up with a parent." KidStand generates a secure link the parent opens on their own phone or computer.

How it works

  • On the kid's device, tap "Set up with a parent" from the onboarding or stand approval screen.
  • Share the link via text, AirDrop, or any messaging app.
  • Parent opens the link at kidstand.app/setup/[token] in a browser.
  • Parent signs in with Apple or Google and completes the setup wizard: household, kid profile, and Stripe Connect for payouts.
  • The kid's device automatically unlocks when setup is complete β€” no need to sign in again on the kid's phone.

Tips for a smooth handoff

  • Use Safari or Chrome on the parent's device. Avoid in-app browsers when possible.
  • Allow pop-ups if prompted during Stripe Connect onboarding.
  • Keep both devices connected to the internet until the kid's screen shows setup is complete.
  • Setup links expire for security. If a link stops working, generate a new one from the kid's device.

Parent web dashboard

After setup, parents can also visit kidstand.app/parent to review household activity, kid profiles, and stand status from any browser.
